The Evolution of Tracing and Profiling for Power Management and Accelerators

Date: Wednesday, April 13th
Time: 2:30pm
Location: Spring

The modern SoCs evolutions are pushing the software to change dramatically. The main evolutions are: dynamic power management, increase of the on-chip devices count, integration of multiple hardware accelerators. Due to the nature of the new SoC architectures the traditional static debugging tools are not suited anymore. The talk presents:

  • The recent changes in the trace/perf API, why and how to make it generic,
  • The changes in the trace parsing tools: timechart, pytimechart,
  • The problems encountered when changing generic APIs and the solutions,
  • The HW accelerators tracing API,
  • A proposal on the planned changes in the API and tools.

This talk is oriented towards Linux power management developers, profiling tools developers and users.
